Pierre Omidyar is best known as the founder and chairman of eBay, the online auction website.
He was born on June 21, 1967, in Paris, France. He wrote his first computer program at age 14, to catalog books for the school library. Omidyar graduated from Tufts University in 1988 with a degree in computer science and started his career Macintosh and Apple and he came up with his company Ebay.
With a net worth of $8.1 billion, Pierre Omidyar became a billionaire in 1998 when eBay went public.
Ebay was started in 1995 Pierre Omidyar created code for a page called Auction Web, letting people list items for auction. The site got attracted by many buyers and sellers that made him set up a separate site for auction. It was made as a place where buyer and sellers meet together.
In May 1998, he was named be the eBay’s chairman.
EBay continued to be a huge success, where it expanded the company’s services through new site launches (in Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom), acquisitions and joint ventures.
